Gun Focused T.V Show Gets New Security After Newtown Shooting

The popularity of gun related T.V shows have been greatly affected after the killing in Newtown, Conn. "Sons of Guns" is aired on Discovery Channel and is about custom made assault rifles, sniper rifles, or just about any other form of weapon you can think of. Laurie Goldberg, a spokeswomen for Discovery Channel, could not state definitively what future, if any the show had. Goldberg stated that the show is not on schedule and is not on the schedule in the near future. Ms. Goldberg said that decision was unrelated to the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School and Discovery had quietly decided to drop the series three months ago. Others gun related shows such as "American Gun" have dropped in ratings recently also.

Storage Wars on A&E

So, you might have heard of a TV show called Storage Wars - it is a reality TV show where there is an auction of storage units/lockers. In California, when rent is not paid on a storage unit in three months, it is auctioned off. The main auctioneer, Dan Dotson, is a likeable guy who talks extremely fast like most auctioneers do. There is brutal competition between Dave Hester, Barry Weiss, Darrell Sheets, and the pair of Jarrod Schultz and Brandi Passante. All of these characters are hilarious in their own way, and buying lockers and selling what is in them is how they get their income! They never know what they might find, valuable or not...

Christmas Classics

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer --
We all know the Abominable Snowman of the North, Yukon Cornelius, Clarice, and of course, Rudolph. First created in 1964, Rudolph has had a number of revisions and brand new versions, including "Rudolph and the Island of Misfit Toys" and "Rudolph's Shiny New Year." It is one of the most beloved Christmas specials of all time - along with the tune "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer!"

How the Grinch Stole Christmas --
How the Grinch Stole Christmas started out in 1957. This Dr. Seuss book has made many different movies over the past years. The newest one in 2000 when Jim Carey plays "The Grinch" and is the perfect character for it. This movie also teaches children that Christmas isn't just about getting the most expensive gifts, but that it's about being with family and people you love.

Buying a TV? LCD vs. LED vs. Plasma

This year for Christmas, we are getting a family Christmas present - a new 40'' TV! As we have been shopping, we have had to consider the three different types of HDTVs: LCD, LED, and Plasma. Here are some of the basic differences.

LED
LED TV's are the most energy efficient TVs on the market today. They have the highest brightness level, but are also the most expensive of the three types of HDTVs. An LED TV actually is an LCD TV, just with a different lighting source (LED light source). LED TVs have the highest and most powerful technology of any TV, but is the price worth it?

Pros and Cons: Television

"I'm going to take the night off and relax and watch some good TV."
"Reality TV is so stupid."
"TV is such a waste of time."
"I'm obsessed with Gossip Girl."
"Let me finsish this episode Mom.."
"Ugh... commercials..."

Television - there are definitely some pros and cons. Sure, watching the TV for a couple hours a night can be enjoyable and relaxing, but are there negative effects to those couple hours? Sure, reality TV is stupid, but what about the History and Discovery channels?

3-D T.V's. Are they worth it?

When considering buying a 3-D T.V there are many things you have to keep in consideration. While
3-D technology isn't new, it is when bringing it to your household. These T.V's add depth and gets you more involved in whatever it is you are watching. A typical 3-D T.V is 1,000 dollars more than buying the same T.V without 3-D capabilities. When buying one of these, you will probably want a
3-D Blu-ray player and another set of glasses for others to use. These 2 things alone will cost about 500 to 600 dollars. Some people believe it is annoying to always have the glasses on when going to watch television and the extra amounts of money isn't worth it. There are many things to consider with buying these T.V's and what you are really getting out of it.

Violent Televison

It has been proven from multiple researchers that watching violent television leads to more aggression later in life. In 1956, a study was performed on kids who watched an episode of "Woody Woodpecker" and found that kids were more likely to hit other children and break toys than kids who watched a nonviolent cartoon. Kids who watched more than one hour on television as a teenager were 60% more likely to be involved in a fight or act of aggression. Parents need to be more aware of what their kids are watching and monitor them when watching aggressive, violent T.V.

Cartoons: From Kids to Adults - An Interview

Remember when the first thing we thought about when we heard the word "cartoon" was "Scooby-Doo," "Bugs Bunny," or "Dora the Explorer?" Now, when we hear the word "cartoon," we also think of more 'adult' cartoons like "Family Guy," "The Simpsons," "South Park," and "Futurama." There has been a shift in the aim of audience for cartoons, and I interviewed my mother, who watches "Family Guy" on a nightly basis. Here is what she had to say...

Mary's Seinfeld Review

In our Journalism class, we watched an episode of one of America's classic TV shows, Seinfeld. The episode was called "The Limo" and Jerry's random humor got some chuckles out of our first hour class. Here are reviews of the episode from me and Connor! There will also be a link posted to this episode coming soon!

The Limo

In Seinfeld, one of America’s favorite comedies, audiences get a chuckle out of Jerry’s realism, stand up, and impersonation as Dylan Murphy in the 19th episode, third season, entitled The Limo. The classic foursome play off a serious situation as something humorous, and to some, pure silly. Sarcasm, physical humor, and blunt objectiveness are all different types of humor in this episode. This episode is lovingly silly to watch, whether the viewer is four and giggles at Kramer’s fall into trashcans, or sixty-four and catches the hidden sarcasm throughout the episode.

Connor's Seinfeld Review

                                                                     The Limo
This episode of Seinfeld called The Limo was a great example of pure comedy with a little suspense thrown in. In this episode George was pretending to be a man named Colin O’Brien, who ended up being a Nazi Fascist and book writer of a very bias book about Jew’s. He does this because his car broke down on the way to the airport from picking up Jerry. Once George sees a limo driver waiting for a man Jerry knows isn’t there, they jump on the opportunity to use his identity for a free ride.

The humorous part of this is the extremes they take their stolen identities to. While in the limo, the driver says they are going downtown because they have 4 tickets, to them this meant 4 tickets to the Bulls, Knicks game that was going on tonight. They then called their friends Kramer and Elaine to join them. Now by then you can tell that things are getting pretty out of hand. But the lies will continue to go on.
